IVF

Montserrat facilities have the capability to support IVF procedures at our various locations.

IVF is the uniting of egg and sperm in vitro (in the lab). Subsequently the embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix and pregnancy is allowed to begin. IVF may be performed in conjunction with medication that stimulates the ovaries to produce multiple eggs in order to increase the chances of successful fertilisation and implantation.

Montserrat Day Hospitals have a relationship with Professor Bruce Dunphy from Bubtree Fertility & Monash IVF.

Bruce is a Brisbane-based Fertility Specialist who is one of only three gynaecologists in Queensland who also hold subspecialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (C.R.E.I). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG), Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), his MD research focused on male infertility and he has an MEd and a PhD in Education. Bruce offers the full range of fertility and IVF services including initial investigation, gynaecological operative endoscopy, tubal reconstructive surgery, the management of male infertility, ovulation induction, donor therapy, and management of female reproductive endocrine problems such as PCOS. Bruce is the Medical Director for Monash IVF Queensland and for Monash IVF Brisbane.

Bruce is currently working in conjunction with the World Health Organization to develop a needs assessment tool for the delivery of infertility training and services and he is a member of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) Education Committee, which is the overarching international organization encompassing the national fertility societies of close to 70 nations. Bruce is developing an e-learning platform with the IFFS directed primarily towards supporting the training and ongoing education of fertility specialists in the developing world.

At a national level Bruce is actively involved with the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) as Chair of the Research Project Assessment Subcommittee, as a member of the Education and Assessment Committee and as a Member of the Board of Examiners. Bruce recently contributed to the development of a series of seven RANZCOG on-line learning modules for how to plan and conduct a research project. He is also an examiner for the Australian Medical Council.
