Patient Care

Dr Norrie’s passion for Gastroenterology stems from the complexity and intricate nature of the gut and liver systems and the holistic approach required for effective patient care. Renowned for his honesty, approachability and experience, Dr Norrie prioritises what matters most to patients. He tailors medical cared based on each patient’s expectations, age, lifestyle and other clinical factors.

Dr Norrie enjoys offering consultations and procedures as this allows for a more comprehensive and tailored approach to patient care. He gravitates to where quality care is needed, offering high quality gastrointestinal services in Longreach each month. He enjoys treating patients in Longreach as much as Brisbane, describing them as both grateful and candid.

Rapid Access Endoscopy

Dr Norrie is a Senior Gastroenterologist at Montserrat, where he offers Rapid and Direct Endoscopy services. Rapid and Direct Endoscopy allows eligible patients to schedule their endoscopies within two weeks, bypassing the initial specialist consultation when appropriate. This service streamlines the diagnostic process, particularly for those with positive results from Australia’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, ensuring timely investigation and reduced wait times for patients.

Awards & Publications

Dr Norrie received The New Zealand Young Investigators Award in 2002 for his PhD research into gene methylation in colorectal biology carcinoma. He has been widely published in the past 20 years, writing numerous papers on colorectal cancer, in addition to improving gluten tolerance in celiac disease.

Volunteering & Mentoring

Dr Norrie volunteers annually with ANZGITA (the Australian & New Zealand Gastroenterology International Training Association), providing his services and expertise in developing countries including Myanmar, Fiji, and, more recently, the Solomon Islands. He describes volunteering as a deeply rewarding experience, where he imparts his knowledge and teaches skills to help local doctors become more self-reliant and less dependent on assistance from developed countries. Committed to sharing his extensive knowledge, Dr Norrie also served as a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University in 2010.

Outside of work, Dr Norrie likes to stay fit and see the world pursuing his passion for running, reading and travelling.
