Dr Terrence Tan is a skilled Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing digestive health issues. Dr Tan first completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales, followed by specialised training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Perth. He has also been awarded a Doctorate (PhD) from the University of Queensland, where he continues to teach medical students in addition to mentoring and educating younger physicians.

Known for his compassionate and patient centred approach to care, Dr Tan specialises in a broad range of gastrointestinal issues including:

Dr Hadi Moattar is a clinical Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with expertise and a special interest in:

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Coeliac Disease
  • Eosinophilic Oesophagitis, and
  • Luminal Endoscopy and Polypectomy.

Dr Moattar completed his Medical Degree with Distinction in 2004 and since then, he has worked in various hospitals both in the United Kingdom and Queensland. In 2016, he completed his Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship after being trained at the Mater Adult Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Townsville Hospital.

After completing his general Gastroenterology Fellowship, Dr Moattar worked as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow at the foremost IBD Centre – the Fiona Stanley Hospital, in Perth, Western Australia. This helped to expand his experience and skill in managing complex patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He uses his clinical and interpersonal skills to optimise patients’ care and quality of life in close collaboration with IBD nurses, dieticians, colorectal surgeons, clinical psychologists, and radiologists.

Dr Moattar enjoys keeping abreast of the latest developments and research in Gastroenterology. In addition to teaching students and junior doctors in small tutorials and lecturing in grand rounds and departmental meetings, he actively participates in quality assurance projects and audits, publishing or presenting the results of these projects in national and international meetings.

Dr Moattar personally monitors all IBD patients’ who commence immunosuppressants to ensure the maximum safety and efficacy of these medications.

Dr Peter Ko is a specialist gastroenterologist with an interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He works as a senior staff specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Peter graduated from medical school in 2007 and completed his specialty training in South Korea. During this time, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in internal medicine.

Peter has been working as a consultant gastroenterologist since 2013 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2019. He has strong interest and extensive experience in treating large and complicated polyps and has a demonstrated track record of excellent outcomes.

Peter’s special interests include:
• High quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (gastroscopy/colonoscopy)
• Complex endoscopic resections (ESD, EMR)

Peter moved from South Korea to New Zealand in 2018, before settling in Brisbane in 2021. He is looking forward to developing relationships with patients at Westside Private Hospital.

Dr Mark Norrie has such an interesting career working across Australia and New Zealand.  He started with us at Montserrat Day Hospitals back in 2003 and currently has procedure lists and consults from Westside Private Hospital and regularly visits Longreach and Emerald.

 Mark graduated with MBChB in 1988 and has completed a PhD at the University of New South Wales in Molecular Biology, looking at gene methylation in colorectal biology carcinoma.   He is trained in all facets of Gastroenterology including training in the provision of small bowel capsule endoscopy. He also continues to practice in the public health system.

Special interests include:

  • Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Dr Maguire graduated from University College Dublin in 1988 and commenced her training in Gastroenterology in Dublin in 1992. She spent a year doing clinical research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and completed her training at the Princess Alexandra and Mater Adult Hospitals in Brisbane. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1999.

Dr Maguire has a special interest in:

  • General Gastroenterology
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Dr Maguire commenced with Montserrat in 2000 and offers consultations and procedure from our Samford Road Day Hospital.

Dr Wong is a general gastroenterologist with an interest in high quality colonoscopy and endoscopic mucosal resection of large polyps.

He graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours in 2010.  After completing basic physician training in Perth, he went on to advanced training in gastroenterology at Lismore Base Hospital, Port Macquarie Base Hospital, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in NSW. He then completed a year of advanced training at QEII Jubilee Hospital focussing on high quality colonoscopy, techniques to improve the adenoma detection rate, advanced endoscopic techniques for polyp resection, as well as capsule endoscopy.

In 2018 Dr Wong was awarded his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.  Dr Wong is committed to continuing medical education and is an associate lecturer at University of Queensland, and is involved in clinical teaching at QEII.  He is able to provide gastroscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy as well as iron infusions.

He is committed to supporting his patients through their journey and is available for procedure and consulting lists at Westside Private Hospital.
